Creating Safe, Dignified Spaces at Dorothy Pattison Hospital
Dorothy Pattison Hospital, part of the Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, is dedicated to providing compassionate care to older adults living with dementia and mental health conditions. As part of their ongoing commitment to patient dignity, safety, and wellbeing, the hospital has recently undertaken a significant refurbishment project to upgrade its en-suite washroom facilities within its dementia and older adult units.
The project was led by Dodd Group, with Stuart Rencher overseeing the delivery of a complex yet vital transformation. With safety, ease of use, and hygiene at the forefront, the hospital needed a washroom solution that would not only meet stringent healthcare safety standards but also provide a dignified environment for patients.
To support this mission, KWC DVS Safe En-Suite Kits were specified for the project, ordered via Neville Lumb. The Safe En-Suite Kits are designed specifically for secure healthcare settings, reducing ligature risks while maintaining comfort and ease of use for vulnerable individuals.
A closer look at the solutions installed
Given the size of this refurbishment, we’re highlighting some of the most used products that made a significant impact on this project:
- VR01-030 High Security Basin with Integrated Backplate and High Security Waste Grid
- AT07-014 Tap Control System (Tactile Switch Kit) for seamless control with DVS high-security backplates
- VR07-020 Multi-Channel Washroom Control Box for safe, efficient water management
- Push Sensors with Blue (Cold) and Red (Hot) Inserts with 3m Cables for intuitive operation
- VR01-034 High Security WC Pan (RAL 5011 Blue Top) for easy identification and dignified patient care
These solutions are designed to ensure maximum safety while retaining functionality, with anti-ligature designs, durable construction, and intuitive controls that help maintain patient independence where possible.
In dementia and older adult care, even small details make a significant difference. The KWC DVS high-security washroom products allow staff to confidently support patients while creating a calm, reassuring environment. Colour-coded push sensors aid those with cognitive impairments in distinguishing between hot and cold water, while robust fixtures minimise risk without compromising comfort.
Stuart Rencher and the Dodd Group team ensured a smooth installation process within a live hospital environment, working closely with the Trust and Neville Lumb to minimise disruption to patient care while delivering a safer, future-proof facility.
These upgrades align with Dorothy Pattison Hospital’s commitment to providing care environments that truly respect the dignity, safety, and comfort of the people they serve.
